July 2013 Ipsy Bag

Hey Everyone! It’s time again to talk about what came in this months Ipsy Bag!

Big Sexy Hair ‘Weather Proof’ : is a humidity resistant spray that you apply to a finished look to resist humidity and frizz, as well as keep your hair in place (like a hairspray). It smells like a cross between generic hairspray and dental fluoride.

BH Cosmetics ‘California Collection’ Palette : is an eyeshadow trio including the shades ‘Hollywood’, ‘San Francisco’, and ‘Malibu’. ‘Hollywood’ is a deep bright purple, ‘San Francisco’ is a medium sandy brown with gold glitter, and ‘Malibu’ is bright yellow gold. All of these shades are very sheer and blend decently. Unfortunately ‘Hollywood’ is the most poorly pigmented, and ‘San Francisco’ can get a bit muddy. ‘Malibu’ is very similar to Urban Decay’s ‘Half Baked’, but is much more yellow toned.

Coola Mineral Sunscreen : is an organic tinted moisturizer with spf 20. It’s color is that of a light warm bisque, I have “MAC NC20” skin and it gives me a warm glow without getting too orange. It has a very light liquidy consistency, and light but buildable coverage. This product is also green friendly, recycle friendly, and cruelty free.

Pop Beauty ‘Pouty Pop Crayon’ in Fuchsia Flirt : is a twist-up tinted lip balm crayon. ‘Fuchsia Flirt’ is a neutral flamingo pink, and contrary to the name I would not describe this color as fuchsia.

Demeter Roll On Perfume Oil in Salt Air : is an oil based roll on perfume. I got one of these in a previous Ipsy Bag and liked the scent, but unfortunately these are very light, hardly noticeable fragrances and do not last more than a few minutes once applied. ‘Salt Air’ has notes of white sand, ocean salt, and slight mandarin. Although, I love Bobbi Brown ‘Beach’ which has similar notes, I do not care for this fragrance.

Best Eyeshadows for Fair Skin

Hey Everyone! Since you all seemed to love my post on the Best Blushes for Fair Skin : http://wp.me/p2O2wx-7P , I thought I would make a little series of similar posts. This one, as you can probably tell from the title, is about eyeshadows that I think look especially great on those of us with fair skin. Like I said before, fair skinned people can get away with wearing ANY color because we are such a “blank canvas”; but these are the shades that I find are the most universally flattering regardless of skin type/undertone/etc.

Bobbi Brown Candlelight / MAC Ricepaper : These are both great brightening lid colors. Candlelight is more champagne colored, and Ricepaper is more yellow.

Bobbi Brown Bone / MAC Brule : These are both almost invisible flesh tones. Bone is slightly more pigmented.

Urban Decay Tease / MAC Haux : These are both great mauve/brown colors that look amazing in the crease. Tease is moderately more purple.

Urban Decay Naked / Bobbi Brown Wheat / MAC Wedge : These are all neutral medium/light browns that are great for crease and blending. Naked is the most neutral, Wheat is cooler, and Wedge is warmer.

MAC Folie / Urban Decay Buck / NYX Dance The Tides : These are all warm medium browns. Folie is a reddened brown, Buck is a tan brown, and Dance the Tides has a warm copper/orange tint.

MAC Cork : is a unique warm medium brown thats great for the crease and brows.

MAC Shale : is a sheer muted cool purple. I think it is one of the most underrated MAC eyeshadows, I love it!

MAC Naked Lunch : looks much better on pale skin than All That Glitters. It is basically the same peachy pink color, just taken down a few notches.

NYX Tropical : is a great coral/orange shade that doesn’t overpower your whole look.

MAC Expensive Pink : is similar to NYX Tropical, but is much more pink.

Urban Decay Sin : a great frosted silky pink, without being too pink! Looks great on the lid or as a highlight.

Urban Decay Sidecar : is a warm light taupe/brown with heavy silver sparkle.

Urban Decay Darkhorse : is a warm charcoal that isn’t too cool or dark; which makes it a GREAT option for fair skin because it isn’t overpowering.

Urban Decay Toasted / MAC Sable : These are both warm pink/browns. Toasted is slightly pinker, and Sable is slightly more red toned.

MAC Big Bounce Shadow in Count Your Assets : is a a bright cool purple. Its great as a base or on its own. Although this product is discontinued, you can look for something similar. This is just what I have.

Maybelline Color Tattoo in Blue Paradise : is a great color for pale people to rock, as most people can’t! It is a medium blue base with purple duochrome.

MAC Paint Pot in Morning Frost : is a slightly cool taupe/brown. This was limited edition, but again, you can easily find something similar.

What are your favorites?

Top 10 Best Perfumes

Hey Everyone! Today I wanted to share with you my list of the Top 10 Best Perfumes available. Over the years I have tried a lot of different perfumes, and have found that I am drawn to ones that are unique, as well as long-lasting.

When I walk by, I don’t want other people to be able to instantly identify the perfume I am wearing; which nowadays is so easy when everyone wears super popular perfumes like Viva La Juicy. My goal is to intrigue others and to personify the “character” I am feeling like that day. That being said, I find that perfume is a great tool in impressing people with the message YOU want to send. For example, a lot of people say that I look young for my age; so when I need to command respect in a room with people who would otherwise discard me due to my appearance, an extra sophisticated, classic perfume can subliminally change their mind.

With #1 being the most favorite (although they are all very close and I love each one for different reasons), here are the ones that I think are the most unique, long-lasting, and pleasant :

10. Philosophy – Love Sweet Love : is very sweet and innocent. It’s notes include sweet fruits like mango, and light florals. It has a bit of musk as well that makes it not so “childish”. I like wearing this perfume during the day on errands, or even out to lunch. You can get 2 oz for $42 at Sephora.

9. Victoria’s Secret – Sexy Little Things Noir : is the opposite of sweet and innocent. It is feminine in that it has top notes of blackberry and vanilla, but it turns ultra seductive with jasmine, musk, and woody notes. Although I don’t wear this perfume very often, I appreciate its originality, and love wearing it when I want to feel extra sassy. You can get 1.7 oz for $44 at Victoria’s Secret.

8. Dior – Miss Dior Cherie : is young, but smart. It has fruity top notes like cherry mixed with florals like jasmine and rose, and a warm base of caramel and patchouli. I would imagine this to be the perfume of a very young business executive in Paris, who has a youthful love for things like ballet and romance. I enjoy wearing this both day and night. You can get 1.7 oz for $90 at Sephora.

7. Jessica Simpson – Fancy Nights : is one of the most warm and spicy fragrances I have ever experienced. It immediately catches your attention with amber, vanilla, and musk, mixed with seductive florals like jasmine. I like warming up with this on cold winter nights. *this product appears to be discontinued, but you can find it in the 1 oz packaging at Target for $19.99.

6. Burberry – The Beat : is sophisticated with a rock and roll twist. It is woody and musky with unique additions like iris, pink pepper, and tea. I’m not sure how Burberry does it, but something about it just feels british. I like wearing this perfume when I want to feel refined, but a little edgy. You can get 1.7 for $60  at Ulta.

5. Bobbi Brown – Beach : resembles sunblock, but in a really good way. It’s notes of jasmine, mandarin, and sea spray instantly make you feel like its summer and you’re on a warm sandy beach in the tropics. I like wearing this when I need a little summer pick-me-up. You can get 1.7 oz for $67.50 at Sephora.

4. Philosophy – Amazing Grace : is very clean and light. It has notes of musk, freesia, and rose. I wear it when I want to feel ultra feminine and understated. You can get 2 oz for $44 at Sephora.

3. Ralph Lauren – Romance : is extra sophisticated. It has notes of chamomile, ginger, and white musk, mixed with very light florals like freesia and rose. I like wearing this when I want to be taken seriously and command the attention of the room. You can get 1.7 oz for $65 at Sephora.

2. Sarah Jessica Parker – Lovely : is classy, sophisticated, and ultra feminine. It has soft white musk with lavender, and a touch of citrus. It is very intimate and soft, and I like to wear it when I want to invite people to come in closer. You can get 3.4 oz for $68 at Macys.

1. Tocca – Florence : is a perfect blend of white musk, gardenia, rose, and jasmine, with a hint of fruit. When I wear it, I feel like a powerful queen who is just a touch evil. It embodies power, sophistication, beauty, and class; and has become my signature fragrance. You can get 1.7 oz for $68 at Sephora.

Let me know what your favorite perfumes are, and if any of these made your list!

The Top 5 Nudes You Can’t Live Without!

Hey Everyone! Since I got such a positive response from my last post, The Top 5 Browns You Can’t live Without, I thought I would do another similar post. This one is going to be all about nude/neutral eyeshadows and feature my picks for each category. Again, this is just my opinion in what can help make a collection complete, and what I’ve found helps me the best. These shades can be in the form of powder, cream, etc. Here we go! ( scroll down to read about each color)

#1.The Eraser– This is a color that I talk a lot about in my YouTube videos that should help “erase” any mistakes by blending into your skin tone much like a face powder  does. I find the skin around my eyes is a bit lighter than the rest of my face, so I prefer using a color like Brule by MAC instead of a face powder for that area. This color CAN be used for the same thing as color #2, but I highly recommend getting a different shade that disappears completely into your skin, so that you can’t see it at all.

#2.The Matte Highlight– As the name says, this highlight shade should be matte and compliment your skin tone flawlessly. It is one of the most important neutral shade you can have, and for me it’s Bone by Bobbi Brown. I use this color with almost every single look. The goal of the color is to be able to match everything and everything, and most importantly not compete for any attention. You should able to use this color on the lid, brown brown, and inner corner; and if your’e lucky, you can use this as an eraser if you’re in a pinch.

#3.The Champagne Highlight– A perfect example of a champagne highlight is Candlelight by Bobbi Brown because  it has such subtle highlighting qualities that mimmic being lit from within. Champagne colored highlights are excellent for eyes, but also double as a superb cheek bone highlight for a natural looking inner-glow. This type of neutral shade is great in a collection because its such an amazing alternative to a white highlight or lid color.

#4.The Bright White– For this shade I recommend finding a super bright, stark white color. My favorite is the Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk by NYX, which is a cream eyeshadow. This type of product is an excellent base when using bright colors because it grabs ahold of the pigment and makes colors appear brighter. You can also apply it to your inner corner or brow bone and blend it out to create an insanely bright highlight.

#5.The Complimentary Shade– The complimentary shade is an absolute must for every collection because it can be used in conjunction with other shades or by itself. This will be a color that you feel looks best on your skin tone and give a subtle wash of color. For many this is an eyeshadow like Naked Lunch or All That Glitters (both by MAC), or any taupe, tan, or peach color that is more often that not a frost. Because my skin tone is extremely neutral, All That Glitters (possibly the most popular complimentary shade ever) can look a bit too peachy/pink toned on me. Coincidentally, Elle Fowler (AllThatGlitters21) has a pink toned complexion, so its no wonder the color that she named herself after looks so fantastic on her! Thankfully, in the 2012 Hey Sailor Collection, MAC came out with an eyeshadow called Jaunty which was similar but more of a neutral sandy color ,which worked a lot better for me. This is probably the most important color you can acquire on your quest for the perfect collection, so make sure you’re absolutely in love with it; if you’re not, then keep looking. Remember, the goal of this color is to be a “go-to” color that you can throw on your lid with some mascara and feel great.

What I’m Brining to IMATS : The Complete Beauty Edition

Hey Everyone!

As you can probably tell, I am going to IMATS Pasadena this weekend! Last year (2012) was my very first year going and I had a fantastic time! However, before going I searched “what to bring/wear to IMATS” and “what to expect at IMATS” and shockingly found very little. So here is the complete list of what I am going to be bringing with me beauty wise :

SKIN: Loreal Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream (Fair), Nars Sheer Glow Foundation (Siberia), MAC Studio Finish Concealer (NW15), MAC Select MoistureCover Concealer (NC15), Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Under Eye Illuminator, Josie Maran Argan Illuminizer, Sonia Kashuk Brightening Powder, Nars Albatross Highlighter, Benefit Watts Up Highlighter, MAC MSF (Light Plus), MakeupForever Blush (#10), Physicians Formula Light Bronze Pearl.

EYES: Urban Decay Primer Potion (Original), Bobbi Brown Rich Caviar Eye Palette, MAC quad (Espresso, Satin Taupe, Expensive Pink, Shale), N7 Liquid Liner, Urban Decay 24/7 Pencil (Zero/Whiskey), Chella Brow Gel, Benefit They’re Real Mascara, Lancome Hypnose Doll Lashes Mascara,

LIPS: Ulta Lip Pencil (Rose), MAC lipstick (Glamourdaze), Loreal Color Riche Balm (Nourishing Nude).

BRUSHES: (see video)

When you get to the show you will need to wait in line to get your wristband first, then you will get into another line  which is around the other side of the building (you’ll see it). After you get in you want to head to the booth you most want to see first ( I recommend researching which companies/shows/etc will be there before arriving ) because chances are that if you skip the booth you want to go to the most because the line seems too long, you’ll end up having to wait in an even BIGGER line later. Unfortunately lines do not “die down” at IMATS. You’ll also want to research what kinds of discounts the companies are offering and make a budget for yourself.

As far as what to wear, I’ve seen it all. You want to look good obviously because you will be taking pictures and meeting people in the beauty industry, but don’t take that as an invitation to wear a prom dress! Anything from nice jeans and a t shirt to a day time dress would work perfectly. I will be wearing a blousey button down and black jeans with chunky jewelry and cute flats from C Wonder. Speaking of flats, thats exactly what you will want to wear. You will most definitely be waiting in long lines and fighting through crowds all day.

When lunch comes around, there is a nice plaza right across the street with places like PF Changs and Rubios. A bit farther than that (walking or driving is ok) is Colorado Blvd which has tons of places to eat. Just make sure to keep your wristband on!

Thats about all the tips/info I can think of besides to just have fun and take tons of pictures. If you are going and want to do a meet up you can message me or tweet me. I will be checking my twitter and posting pics all day 🙂 hope to see you there!
