Best Breakout Star : Hourglass Cosmetics

Like I did last year, I am now going to talk about a few standout products from the list! First of all, I want to talk about Hourglass Cosmetics and why I chose them for both Best High End Brand AND Best Breakout Star. I feel like this year Hourglass came out of nowhere with amazing and innovative products. Their Ambient Lighting Powders are already a guru favorite and are quickly becoming a staple in most beauty lovers collections. I think its fair to say we have never seen something quite like these powders just based on the sheer innovation, versatility, and quality. They also have an amazing range of foundations and other products that I look forward to becoming more familiar with.

Next, the Butter London Wink Mascaras are sadly not as celebrated as I feel they should be; which is why they were almost this years Most Underrated Product ( which ended up being the Neutrogena Crease Proof Eyeshadows because they are literally the easiest and quickest cream eyeshadow to use, and I have never heard anyone talk about them)….back to the Wink Mascara….Not only does this mascara has a great wand and color range, but the colors are insanely gorgeous AND pigmented. With only two coats I can get a fully opaque purple lash.

Finally, I want to discuss the Best Foundations of the year. The Best High End Foundation, CK One 3-in-1 Face Makeup (another breakout star), is the best of the year because it has one of the most natural finishes I’ve ever seen as well as feeling like there is nothing on the skin. It has an SPF of 8, a light pleasant scent, and keeps the skin healthy and clear. As for the Best Drugstore Foundation, I chose the Covergirl Clean Whipped Creme because it is extremely blendable and full coverage, which means it never looks cakey.

I hope you enjoyed this post! And make sure to let me know your favorites for the year !!!!!

August Favorites! *with a special bonus*

Hey Everyone!

Its that time again for my monthly favorites! *bonus below*

This month I was loving :

Laura Mercier Foundation Primer Oil-Free – It has been extra hot this month, so I have been loving this primer to give my foundation/concealer extra staying power without breaking me out.

Neutrogena Crease Proof Eyeshadow in Lasting Taupe – This product is super quick and easy to use, which is great for the summer. This shade is a sheer cool taupe and is super creamy without creasing; even without a primer.

Covergirl Lash Blast Luxe in Black Cabernet – Even though I usually stick to plain black, I decided to try this color after seeing that it was on clearance just for fun. I ended up really liking the subtle difference and have worn it all month.

Neutrogena Deep Clean Oil Free Makeup Remover Cleansing Wipes – I usually use the regular Neutrogena makeup wipes, but the store I was shopping at was out of those, so I picked up these and thought they were pretty good. I’ve used them this month, but will go back to my regular pick when I run out.

**BONUS**

This month I got my hands on the Kiss You Lip Polish in “Niall Loves…Cherry”. Yes, One Direction is making makeup now! And since Niall is my favorite I had to get his color. The packaging consists of a potted lip balm with a twist off top. The top has an old record on it in the corresponding color with the words “Kiss You Lip Polish XOX”, and the signature of the corresponding member. “Niall Loves…Cherry” is a sheer hot candy pink, with a (you guessed it) cherry scent/flavor. Although it is not the most amazing lip balm in the history of makeup, I’m thrilled to have it; especially because when I put it on I can pretend that I’m putting the essence of Niall Horan on my lips 😉

And Niall if you’re reading this, I love you ! ❤

P.S. Everyone should tweet this to Niall! @niallhoran

WORST FOUNDATIONS EVER!

Hi Guys! I don’t normally like to do negative reviews, but somethings are just THAT bad. And I’d rather tell you my honest opinion on something than have you go out and buy something only to end up hating it. These foundations are in numerical order, 1 being the worst. If you want to see my top picks for the best foundations ever, click here : https://beautybysarahmarie.wordpress.com/2013/02/12/best-foundations-ever/

5. Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser: This foundation is marketed as a “treatment makeup”, when in reality they should have just stopped at treatment…kind of. The consistency is that of a slick serum that just sits atop of the skin. It will literally slide off of your skin after about an hour. The coverage is poor and if you have any discoloration/acne, it will not cover it. I cannot speak on the anti-aging effects of this product.

4. Almay Smart Shade Liquid Makeup: If you are naturally blue-tinted, then this foundation is for you! Even when I blend the heck out of this foundation it leaves a blue tint on my skin that looks completely strange. There is also nothing “smart” about this makeup as it merely blends from a blue/white to a light/medium shade on ANY color skin.

3. Revlon ColorStay Whipped:  I know there are a lot of people who rave about this foundation but honestly, its way too thick. I usually love full coverage foundations, but this one LOOKS full coverage, which I do not love. Although it is long wearing, its extremely hard to blend out for a more sheer finish, so you’re stuck with it looking incomplete or totally cakey.

2. Neutrogena Healthy Skin:  Again, I know a lot of people like this foundation but I can’t stand it. It is supposed to have benefitial ingredients in it for the health of your skin and give a healthy/dewy glow. For me, this just came off as oily/greasy and actually made my skin breakout! The consistency is really thick and when applied to the skin, it becomes really difficult to smooth out using any method of application.

1. Maybelline Dream Nude AirFoam:  Not only is this the worst foundation I’ve ever used, it is also the worst makeup product in general I’ve ever purchased. The texture is a weird wet foam that transfers to the skin as a “stain” consistency. The coverage is non existent except for the burnt orange hue it gives your skin. It smells like spray paint and baby powder and is utterly disgusting. Avoid this foundation at all costs.

Thank you for reading! Did any of your least favorites end up on this list?

Clinique Acne Solutions Review

Hey Everyone! Today I’m reviewing the Clinique Acne Solutions regimen, as well as talking about my current skincare routine. For those of you who don’t already know, I’ve suffered from breakouts for the majority of my life and have since been on numerous different routines and treatments trying to solve the problem. Before I started the Clinique regimen, I was using the Neutrogena Skin ID system, which really helped my skin a lot, but they discontinued that line leaving me to have to find something else. Yes, I have been to dermatologists many times throughout my battle with acne, but I’ve found that when I use the harsh treatments they tend to prescribe I lose the health of my skin and end up having to quit using any kind of treatment and only use gentle cleansers and moisturizers to get it back to “normal”. That is why the majority of the time I prefer using non-prescription treatments. Now back to the review!

This system has three steps:

1. Foaming Cleanser: The cleanser, as mentioned in the video, is not as thick of a foam as I would like but it does the job with 2-3 pumps of cleanser without over-drying the skin. I like to use it with my Clarisonic to really remove all dirt/makeup well.  2% Salicylic Acid

2. Clarifying Lotion: This clarifying lotion is actually a liquid toner, not a “lotion”. I apply it after the cleanser with a cotton pad all over my face, excluding my eye area, and down my neck. It is excellent at removing excess dirt/makeup and tightening pores. I’ve noticed a huge difference in the size of my pores since the very first use of this product. 1.5% Salicylic Acid

3. Clearing Moisturizer: Although this treatment moisturizer absorbs nicely into the skin, be extra careful 10-20 minutes after applying it if you are wearing dark clothing or have dark sheets as it could bleach them. 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide

*4. Spot Healing Gel: You can feel this spot healing gel working on contact. It brings cystic acne to the surface as a whitehead in one to two doses and dries it up within three. Excellent! 1% Salicylic Acid  **optional step**

Overall, I would give this system a 4/5. It was able to significantly clear up my skin extremely quickly without making it look and feel unhealthy. If you have heard bad things about Clinique products and are still weary, I would recommend getting a sample of  the spot treatment first. If you like the spot treatment, you will love the rest of the line!

I also use for my Morning Regimen :

1. Cleanse – Aveeno Brightening Daily Scrub

2. Treat – Dr. Andrew Weil for Origins Mega Bright

3. Eye Cream – Origins GinZing

4. Moisturize – Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel, Origins Brighter By Nature, DiorSnow UV Shield

5. Conceal – Loreal Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream
