Best Breakout Star : Hourglass Cosmetics

Like I did last year, I am now going to talk about a few standout products from the list! First of all, I want to talk about Hourglass Cosmetics and why I chose them for both Best High End Brand AND Best Breakout Star. I feel like this year Hourglass came out of nowhere with amazing and innovative products. Their Ambient Lighting Powders are already a guru favorite and are quickly becoming a staple in most beauty lovers collections. I think its fair to say we have never seen something quite like these powders just based on the sheer innovation, versatility, and quality. They also have an amazing range of foundations and other products that I look forward to becoming more familiar with.

Next, the Butter London Wink Mascaras are sadly not as celebrated as I feel they should be; which is why they were almost this years Most Underrated Product ( which ended up being the Neutrogena Crease Proof Eyeshadows because they are literally the easiest and quickest cream eyeshadow to use, and I have never heard anyone talk about them)….back to the Wink Mascara….Not only does this mascara has a great wand and color range, but the colors are insanely gorgeous AND pigmented. With only two coats I can get a fully opaque purple lash.

Finally, I want to discuss the Best Foundations of the year. The Best High End Foundation, CK One 3-in-1 Face Makeup (another breakout star), is the best of the year because it has one of the most natural finishes I’ve ever seen as well as feeling like there is nothing on the skin. It has an SPF of 8, a light pleasant scent, and keeps the skin healthy and clear. As for the Best Drugstore Foundation, I chose the Covergirl Clean Whipped Creme because it is extremely blendable and full coverage, which means it never looks cakey.

I hope you enjoyed this post! And make sure to let me know your favorites for the year !!!!!

July Favorites

Hey Everyone!

IMG_3727

This month went by SO quickly for me! Here is what I ended up using the most :

Revlon Age Defying Foundation : This foundation offers light/medium coverage but feels like nothing is on your skin. It has a serum-like consistency, leaves a slightly dewy finish, and has SPF 20. I use the shade 10 Bare Buff. $12 at drugstores.

Maybelline Fit Me Blush in Deep Wine : Although I am in the lightest shade range, and this shade was in the section for the deepest skin tones, I absolutely love it! It reminds me of MAC’s Frankly Scarlett, but a bit more plum-y. $4.50 at drugstores.

Loreal Voluminous Million Lashes Excess Mascara : This mascara caught my eye at the beginning of this month due to it’s rubber wand that reminded me of the Benefit They’re Real Mascara. Unfortunately its no where near dupe-material like I had hoped, but this is still a decent mascara; though I don’t think I will repurchase it. $8.99 at Ulta.

MAC Studio Finish Concealer : I’ve had more problematic skin than usual this month, and have resorted back to this heavy duty, cover everything concealer. It’s seriously a life-saver. I use the shade NW20. $18 at MAC Stores or Macys.

Fresh Sugar Rose Tinted Lip Treatment : I have been loving this product this month because not only is it ultra moisturizing and luxurious, but it has SPF 15! $22.50 at Sephora.

Revlon Colorstay Nail Polish in Cafe Pink : I love the Revlon Colorstay line in general, but their nail polishes take the cake. They go on smoothly and evenly, and last forever without chipping. Cafe Pink is a gorgeous baby pink that reminds me of animal crackers! In the bottle it has a pink sheen, but it doesn’t transfer to your nails. $5 at drugstores.

Pacifica Perfume in Tahitian Gardenia : I rediscovered this perfume after getting it in an Ipsy Bag a few months ago, and have been loving it for this month. It’s exotic and fresh. $12 at Target.

Clinique Acne Solutions Spot Healing Gel : I said before that my skin was more problematic than usual this past month, so in conjunction with my super concealer, I used this spot treatment to actually fight the blemishes. This product gets a 10/10 from me! $16 at Sephora.

July 2013 Ipsy Bag

Hey Everyone! It’s time again to talk about what came in this months Ipsy Bag!

Big Sexy Hair ‘Weather Proof’ : is a humidity resistant spray that you apply to a finished look to resist humidity and frizz, as well as keep your hair in place (like a hairspray). It smells like a cross between generic hairspray and dental fluoride.

BH Cosmetics ‘California Collection’ Palette : is an eyeshadow trio including the shades ‘Hollywood’, ‘San Francisco’, and ‘Malibu’. ‘Hollywood’ is a deep bright purple, ‘San Francisco’ is a medium sandy brown with gold glitter, and ‘Malibu’ is bright yellow gold. All of these shades are very sheer and blend decently. Unfortunately ‘Hollywood’ is the most poorly pigmented, and ‘San Francisco’ can get a bit muddy. ‘Malibu’ is very similar to Urban Decay’s ‘Half Baked’, but is much more yellow toned.

Coola Mineral Sunscreen : is an organic tinted moisturizer with spf 20. It’s color is that of a light warm bisque, I have “MAC NC20” skin and it gives me a warm glow without getting too orange. It has a very light liquidy consistency, and light but buildable coverage. This product is also green friendly, recycle friendly, and cruelty free.

Pop Beauty ‘Pouty Pop Crayon’ in Fuchsia Flirt : is a twist-up tinted lip balm crayon. ‘Fuchsia Flirt’ is a neutral flamingo pink, and contrary to the name I would not describe this color as fuchsia.

Demeter Roll On Perfume Oil in Salt Air : is an oil based roll on perfume. I got one of these in a previous Ipsy Bag and liked the scent, but unfortunately these are very light, hardly noticeable fragrances and do not last more than a few minutes once applied. ‘Salt Air’ has notes of white sand, ocean salt, and slight mandarin. Although, I love Bobbi Brown ‘Beach’ which has similar notes, I do not care for this fragrance.

Smashbox Pop of Pink

Hey Everyone! I have been wanting to try more Smashbox products since I love the lipsticks so much, so I decided to pick up one of their “sets”. The one I got is the Smashbox Pop of Pink, which includes the following :

Blush in Pop of Pink : a slightly reddened carnation pink with berry undertones. It has slight shimmer and a satin/matte finish.

Be Legendary Lipstick in Posy Pink : a nude carnation pink with a glossy finish.

Reflection High Shine Lip Gloss in Pop of Pink : a sheer bubblegum pink with a slight cotton candy scent.

Full Exposure Mascara : a jet black volumizing and lengthening mascara with a large bristle brush. Medium/dry consistency.

Overall all of the products are fantastic. My only complaint is that I much prefer the discontinued Photo Finish Lipstick formula to the Be Legendary formula. The Photo Finish lipstick formula glided over any dry patches and made your lips look flawless, whereas the Be Legendary formula clings a bit more to dryness on lips.

You can get this set at Ulta for $39 : http://www.ulta.com/ulta/browse/productDetail.jsp?productId=xlsImpprod5230007#details

Flower Beauty Review and Swatches!

Hey Everyone! Ever since Drew Barrymore released her new cosmetic line, Flower Beauty, I have been dying to get my hands on it. I finally tracked down a Walmart near me that carried the whole line and decided to pick up a few things to try.

The Flower Beauty products are high quality, the packaging is very pretty (especially for drugstore products), and the price is reasonable. I am impressed with the fullness of the line; it includes several different types of foundation-type products, cream and powder eyeshadows and blushes, different finishes of lipsticks, etc. It also features inventive new designs in packaging; like the Petite Fleurs which are stackable, three in one concealers. Flower Beauty has a wide range of colors and textures suitable for all skin types, and is overall a great new company.

Here is what I got  (though I’m sure I’ll be back for more!) :

(PICTURES AN SWATCHES BELOW)

Flower Face The World Tinted Moisturizer in TM1 : is a sheer to light coverage tinted moisturizer. It initially goes on smoothly and feels creamy on the skin, but once blended in it dries and becomes difficult to blend any further. Also once it has dried it feels similar to a dried gel consistency on the skin. It is not bothersome to me, but if you are sensitive to things like that, I would keep that in mind. I also do not have problems with it breaking me out. The shade I have, TM1, is similar to MAC NW15 but completely neutral (absolutely no yellow or pink undertones). $10.98

Flower Petite Fleurs Pocket Triplet Concealer in PF1 : is a three part concealer in the form of retractable “bullets”. The shade I have, PF1, includes a very light neutral slightly white color, a light neutral caramel color, and a deeper neutral caramel color. This trio is great for under the eyes (the lightest shade), blemishes (the medium shade), and contouring (the deepest shade). The consistency of all three of these is very creamy and they blend flawlessly. $6.98

Flower Win Some, Rouge Some Creme Blush in Pure Petunia : is a slightly yellow based candy pink cream blush. I would describe the texture of this product as more of a lip balm consistency than a true cream. The pigmentation is absolutely incredible and it blends out perfectly. $7.98

Flower Kiss Stick Velvet Lip Color in Flamingo Flower : is a matte/satin finish lipstick. The color is a slightly reddened magenta hot pink. It wears great both completely bold and opaque, or sheered out. Although it is not glossy, it is moisturizing and does not budge. The “Velvet Lip Colors” come in the white tube. $6.98

Flower Kiss Stick High Shine Lip Color in Tulips 2 Kiss You : is a satin/glossy finish lipstick. The color is a slightly milky hot baby pink. This lipstick also wears great opaque as well as sheered out. It is moisturizing and lasts well after application. The “High Shine Lip Colors” come in the black tube. $6.98

**All of these products are available at Walmart. Be sure to check that your Walmart carries this line, as not all of them do yet. I had to travel to a Walmart almost 30 minutes away! 😉 **

NYC Smooch Proof Lip Stain Review and Swatches

Hello! This post is about the NYC Smootch Proof 16H Lip Stains. These are my absolute favorite lip stains currently on the market! They literally last all day unless you lick your lips frequently, which if thats the case, they will only fade to a less intense saturation of color (I know this to be true because when I am riding horses I tend to lip my lips quite often for some reason). While I would not say this is a moisturizing product, they do not dry out even the most severely chapped lips. I have tried the Revlon Just Bitten Lipstain + Balms and the Covergirl Outlast Lipstains and they do not last nearly as long and dry out my lips terribly. They also tend to bleed out ; while the NYC Lip Stains do not. (PICTURES AND SWATCHES BELOW)

They have a standard lip stain applicator, which resembles a Crayola Marker, and a slight sweet lemon scent. The colors of the actual stain itself tend to always be a couple shades darker than the tube color. That is to be expected with stains because deeper colors are much easier to make stay than lighter shades. Although the color selection is decent to good, I wish they would expand the line considerably; just because I like them so much! Lastly, they last an average amount of time for a lip stain, which is anywhere from a few weeks to up to three months before drying out. Fortunately they are at a price point to where it is not a great expense to replace them after its lifespan has ended. You can get them at :

Target for about $4.50 and …

Gloss Balms Galore!

click on the video to see more lippie goodness :

Hey Everyone! This post is all about the different types of drugstore lip products that fall under the “gloss balm” category. Gloss Balms and Lip Butters are basically just a lip balm or chapstick with a hint of color and often a glossy sheen. I really like gloss balms because they are super hydrating and sheer. The ones I will be reviewing in this post are the Covergirl LipPerfection Jumbo Gloss Balms, the Loreal Colour Riche Caress and Colour Riche Balms, the Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butters, and the Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Suedes. Here are the descriptions, and pictures and swatches will be below.

*Since these products are all considered “sheer” (compared to a normal lipstick), I will use the words sheer, semi-sheer, and high color to describe them. Sheer means that there is little to no visible color, mostly transparent. Semi-Sheer means that there is noticeable or semi-noticable visible color. High Color means that there is very noticeable color.

COVERGIRL LIP PERFECTION JUMBO GLOSS BALM : These are pencil style lip balms with a twistable bottom for addition product. They have buildable semi-sheer pigmentation and last for a few hours before reapplication is needed (as most gloss balms do). The lighter colors can slightly settle into lines and accentuate very chapped lips.  The color 225 Rose Twist is an exceptional everyday rosey nude. I would recommend this product.

225 Rose Twist – a pink rosey nude

205 Ballet Twist – a sandy light pink

220 Haute Pink Twist – a hot watermelon pink

LOREAL COLOUR RICHE CARESS : These are traditional twist-up lip colors in luxurious mirrored gold packaging. They are semi-sheer to buildable high color in pigmentation. I feel that they are not very hydrating and the light colors can be a bit chalky though they have a sheen. The color 170 Cotton Pink in particular is very chalky on my dry lips. Though some colors are great, it’s a huge hit and miss. Overall I would not recommend this product.

170 Cotton Pink – a milky baby pink

172 Blushing Sequin – a neutral neon hot pink

LOREAL COLOUR RICHE BALM : These are traditional twist-up lip colors in tinted translucent packaging. They are semi-sheer in pigmentation and are extremely hydrating. Unlike some of the gloss balm style products, these do not accentuate any dryness and actually give an airbrushed effect to the lips. The color quality and shade range is fantastic. I highly recommend this product.

818 Nourishing Nude – a nude toffee tan *favorite*

318 Heavenly Berry – a nude raspberry *favorite*

REVLON COLORBURST LIP BUTTER : These are traditional twist-up lip colors in tinted translucent packaging with a quilted detail. They are semi-sheer and can have a slightly chalky and sticky consistency. I would not recommend this product.

045 Cotton Candy – a slightly purple baby pink with gold shimmer

REVLON COLORSTAY ULTIMATE SUEDE : These are traditional twist-up lip colors and come in clear packaging. They are high-color and in true “color stay” fashion, they last all day. I like to apply a clear chapstick to my lips before applying these because, again like most colorstay products, they can be a bit drying. I would recommend this product.

010 Womanswear – a neutral candy pink
